Reverse rotating 460 ford???

    No, they don't cast new intakes for reverse rotation. Second, the distributor turns the same direction as they do away with the timing chain and go gear to gear (so the oil pump will work, I believe 460 oil pumps are distributor driven). So there lies your difinitive answer. Pull the timing cover and see if she has a chain. The rocker check will work too if you know what to look for.

    not uncommon to have reverse turning starter

    the early 460's commonly came with these goofy starters. They mount from the drive end side of the bellhousing. you can always check for counter clockwise or clockwise starter by looking at the flywheel especially if it is and older motor wich is likely.

    Have fun with the 460 it is a bullet proof motor and parts are a dime a dozen
