Resistance factors, planing hull at low speed

    He's not saying that at all.

    He is saying you can use the Almeter method when there is minimal test data available for comparing hulls of different proportions and loadings. His hypothesis is that it can be used to avoid large hump resistance, without the need for tank testing. But does require a valid tank test model for verification when going "off" conditions.

    It is just another empirical algorithm that one can elect to use or not, in the preliminary design phase of planing monohulls.

    If you put any type high-speed displacement cat through the Almeter and Clement method, is makes a mockery of the results. Thus, horses for courses; the right tool for the job.

    As i mentioned the original subjet of this thread is about PLANING hull performance at low speed and the method is directly relevant to that question.

    Nobody said anything about applying the method to catamarans which would be obviously wrong.

    The paper has everything to do with planing hull performance at low speed. Did you even read it?

    Think practically and extract the useful parts out of the paper. If you think carefully about the Almeter and Clement numbers they will tell you a lot planing hull performance at low speed.

    I was at the conference where he presented it. So I am more than "familiar" with it. It is also in the journals of conf proceedings on my bookshelf :D

    Clearly you take a different conclusion from myself and that given by the author in respect of using the paper:-
