    Hi all,

    See link below:

    Deck resin

Can someone advise if it is the resin with gelcoat or just resin with polyester yellow paste?
The only reason I can think of mixing gelcoat with resin on the 1st layer is to avoid print through?

My guess would be a laminating resin with pigment, one would have to ask them to be 100% sure.

Yellow gel coat typically has terrible hide, so it needs to be applied thick so it looks uniform. Kayak buyers want a light kayak, plus thick gel coat is more likely to crack. Adding pigment, or a little gel coat to the resin allows the gel coat to be applied thinner and still look good, and being thinner it's less likely to crack on a thin and somewhat flexible laminate like on a kayak.

It takes more experience to roll the air out of the laminate because it's not as easy to see it.

@ondarvr roughly speaking from your experience how much gelcoat it needs per 1kg of resin for example? Just enough to see the resin gets yellow I guess?

There is no set amount, every color will be different. But it doesn't take much.
