    There is a company in Florida that advertises orange oil treatment to combat termites.

    The way it works is that the oil causes the exoskeleton to dissolve, resulting in dehydration. It also stops the insect from feeding in the application zone, causing starvation. If it is injected into the hollow of the wood it will be more effective.

    Boric acid kills insects by scratching their exoskeletons, thereby exposing them to infection.

    Once had to design an enclosure for global use in all climates and one requirement in the brief was termite proof - IF possible. Apparently even if you impregnate stuff (in this case a polymer) with cyanide they will still eat it....;)

    All these methods of killing termites sound extremely painful to the buggers. Just revenge for the work they put us through.
