Fibreglass mat not 'sticking' to new wood stringer

Hi - anybody have any ideas as to why F/Glass mat will not attach to new wood inch by inch stringer - keeps rising off top of wood as if air 'blowing' top up. Any suggestions please!!!

 

OK - have been advised that need to 'round off' stringers as mat will not do 'square' corners - lets have another go then!

 

^^^^℅ Correct. Round all surfaces you lay glass on.

Also, wood does emit some air as it heats. If working outside, apply glass and epoxy at the end of the day, as temperatures drop, not early in the morning, before they rise.

prime wood with resin first ( or deluted resin)

and second, how heavy is cloth you are using?

 

Are you literally using mat (chopped strands, randomly oriented) or a woven cloth?

Also at the base of the stiffener, add filled epoxy to make a fillet, or the glass will not stay stuck down. 1/4" diameter as a minimum. If this is a heavy mat/ cloth that may not be big enough as suggested above.

 

Thanks for hints guys - also been told to 'round' tops of stringers as mat will not adhere at 90 deg edges + as you say lay fillits (or filler) along base to 'round' base of stringers. Cheers.
