Very interesting point about reducing the volume below water level and therefore requiring less ballast to sit at original WL.
There would be a rise of the C of G when removing part of the keel which would mean a bigger weight would be needed compared to what was removed to compensate for this rise in C of G. This bigger weight would mean a reduction in freeboard when seeking the same righting moment and an increase in draft....? Complicated when you were trying to reduce draft in the first place...
I get the general consensus is far too much work and probably not the right way to go, but still interesting to think about.
