    Redoing engine POD keyhole cover

replacing street sign w/ nicer 1/8" sheet aluimin this piece will cover the keyhole and transducer mount screw though hull holes.

I will have my new keyhole cover welded to outside of transome skin I used a flapwheel to remove orgingle enamel paint for good weld adhesion.

Should I also 5200 inside cover? Like around the plywood?

Is it true or false that water can penertrate aluimin welds?

Is it true or false that water can penertrate inperfect aluimin welds?

edit: I want to weld 2"square tubing the starboard side will be long enough to mount trim tabs and transducer.
remember the glue didn't hold the TT first time around.

port side will have square tubing also objective have zero holes though hull.

the top of the TT shock absorber is under water level so I will cut 2" square tube in half then have welded to transom skin.

    Thanks for any tips STB

Bad welds, are by definition imperfect. Most likely they will have pores and cracks that allow water intrusion. That is also where corrosion is likely to start. Also, the whole weld may fail and the part will fall off. In short, bad welds should be redone.

how is a weld tested for pure weld?

I appreciate you'r concern w/ parts falling off, won't have to worry about the keyhole cover falling off the engine keeps it in place however the the 1/2 piece of square tube holding TT could fall off.
