Scaling Laws for Hull Dynamics

    Hello -

    I'm looking for a reference on how one might expect a model of a boat's performance to scale as the size of the boat increases. I'm building numerical models of hull performance using small scale boats and want to be able to argue convincingly that I can apply those same modeling techniques to the performance of full scale boats in the future.

    Any thoughts or references I should look at?

    Scaling

    Don't forget basic laws if you have a free running model.

    For example, if a model were 1/10 scale it would have to have 1/1000 the weight (1/10 length x 1/10 width x 1/10 height = 1/1000 the volume).
