I have no problem believing it's fog.

I worked for Tony Duquette maintaining his properties for a while when I was young, and lived on a ranch he owned in the hills above Malibu... I had a deck that overhung a steep drop into a valley. At the other end of the valley was a low range of hills, and beyond that the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. If I stayed up late enough, I could often watch the ocean and islands disappear in a blanket of white fog. As it kept rising, the fog would eventually find a couple of notches in the hills. Long narrow ribbons of white would start pouring down into the valley, slowly filling it like a bowl being filled with cream. And those ribbons of fog started out looking like shorter versions of the one in this photo.

By the way: that deck had no railings because Tony thought they would ruin the magnificent view, and stepping off it would almost certainly have been fatal. Tony didn't let little things like safety or building codes obstruct his artistic visions.. :)

I was sitting on the deck with a mint julep watching the sun go down one evening, and witnessed a s0-called 'green flash' - where a beam of light seemed to shoot up off the setting sun. But it was definitely blue, instead of green. I've never seen anything like it before or since, but at least I can cross that off my bucket list.

    Welcome back, Troy :)

I've seen a green flash a number of times -- always in the morning, which is generally harder to see than in the evening. However, I've never seen a blue flash. They are much rarer. My wife and I were on a boat cruise in New Zealand when she saw a blue flash in the morning. I wasn't even thinking about trying to see one, and so of course, I was looking the other way and didn't see it. :(

They said, "You don't have to spend a lot of money. Go for the inexpensive economy class seats." Well, I do have a whole pile of them to choose from.

I agree with Manatee Max about the prefered soundtrack here ;)
