Why does it say "Do not touch brake"?
What highway is that next to the rr tracks?

There is a knob under the shield, that if pulled down, opens a valve on the brake pipe causing the train brakes to set. It would be used in an emergency by the train conductor standing on the platform during a backup move if the train had to be stopped suddenly. Normally the conductor would be in radio contact with the engineer and have him set the brakes. Backup moves are usually a slow speed affair.
That is Texas State Highway 95 somewhere north of Taylor before getting to Temple, Texas. Train car was on the tail end of the Amtrak Texas Eagle that runs between San Antonio and Chicago.

Thanks. I crossed those tracks on the way to Somerville Lake back in 2013.

I am glad to have brought a smile to your face!

It was a fun trip wherein the outbound leg culminated in a plane ride over the Grand Canyon.

The photo dated May 10 was taken at Spruce Tree House in the Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado.

I was driving on Ayers Road near here and thought it would be nice to see Ayers Rock, even if only from the air.

I guess those eco-pirates took on the wrong "whale research" vessel!

This is a colorized photo of the C&O Canal in 1925. A full size photo can be seen at the first Shorpy link below and some history and description of the canal at the Wikipedia link below that.

This will get you to the page this photo came from and also to the Shorpy photo site. When you look at full size photos on the site itself, some of them seem to run 'scripts' in the background which slow my crappy computer up too much. The full size photo link above doesn't have those.
