And because you are wondering how they did that - steam donkeys

I was a hazard tree cutter for the USFS for seven summers. Did one summer in Oregon during the timber harvest ban. I was the only person allowed to possess a chainsaw in the Mt Hood Forest. Which meant they had to come and get me for every stupid blowdown. I mostly dealt with reasonably sized stuff, but I did fell a couple old Douglas firs that were 500 years old or so. Biggest was 8' after removing the bark, and better than 5.5' at about 100'. About 245' height. Had to fell it across a hwy. I was getting $10 per hour for this crap. The pros were charging $500 per tree for the big ones.

Neat - History cross cut. My home has a place on it. Although at the time of it's dating I don't think they knew exactly where the Viking Settlement was located. Today of course we all know Lief Ericon's landing spot not as America which tends to allude to the U.S. but more specific as L'Anse Aux Meadows on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsulia in Newfoundland.

It is funny how that place name changed. Originally Meadows was Medus, after the Medusa jellyfish. Too far north of Cuba for me to drive, sadly. Gladly, Côté Baie is not.

    Great pics Sam Sam,

reminds me of a fitout I did about 25+ years ago were we used Chilean Alerce for locker door frames & trims, purportedly the tree it came from was over 2000 years old, at the time it became "Jesus Wood" in honour. supplies were unreliable past the job we did with it as only available as forest salvage rather than logged to protect the remaining forest. Great timber though, deep red, light & held hinge fastenings etc well.

    Jeff.

The sign is giving the price of a standard small espresso when seated on the terrasse or sidewalk.

    • If you only say "a coffee" the price is 7 euros
    • If you say "a coffee, please" the price is 4.25 euros
    • But, if you correctly order it by saying "Good morning, a coffee, please" you are rewarded with the price of 1.40 euros.

    Such a deal...
