    Yah...clean dry painted bilges.

In summer the heat is ferocious and I hate airconditioning. . Some years ago I installed two small whisper quite computor type fans in the bilge to blow cool bilge air into the forward cabin. They work great.
When I tell people that these little fans do a good job they blurt out... But, your whole boat will smell like a sardine factory ...........?

    Oh Well...............

If you are building new, be sure to reserve some storage space in the boat for a small wet and dry vac. Cleaning the bilge with a wet and dry is an easy ten minute job.

In July 2011, the U.S. Coast Guard declared Elissa to be "not seaworthy." They found the hull nearly rusted through in places. Very little corrosion was discovered during the previous dry dock in 2008, prompting surprise that the bottom could have deteriorated so quickly. The corrosion was not simply rust, but stray AC current electrolytic corrosion. The leak of AC current into the water caused by a cable that was damaged during Hurricane Ike, did serious damage to the ship. It just wasn’t evident until the Coast Guard inspection, three years later. Must not have had enough sacrificial zinc exposed to the water. Last I heard they were busy raising funds to repair the ship. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the state of Texas $1.4-million for repairs to Elissa for this damage caused by hurricane Ike.

A python (upper right) lies wedged on the wing of a Qantas passenger plan as it flies over Port Moresby, on January 10, 2013. Passengers on a flight from Australia to Papua New Guinea were shocked to look out their cabin windows to find a huge snake on the wing of the plane. The three meter-long (9.1 foot) non-poisonous Amethystine python appeared about an hour into the Qantas flight between Cairns in northern Queensland and the Papua New Guinean capital of Port Moresby. And now they have completed repair of the hull while in dry dock at Texas City, Texas. I saw that it was back at its birth in Galveston yesterday.
