    Happy Presidents Day!

Is there another term besides plank which could be used for the bow walk thing?

    Progress!

I got the inner cockpit ring installed on my kayak! :D

Not only is it starting to resemble a kayak, but this is the last major structural component of the build.

Wow, I hadn't really realized that until i typed it just now, but it's true. The cockpit ring should be the last piece of structural lumber on the boat (I always reserve the right to change my mind :p ). From here on, everything else is trim and fittings.

The fabric to cover it arrived Monday and I just need to get one more coat of paint on all the pieces that will never again see the light of day and then it will be ready to cover. Aside from the skin, the last big hurdle is the hatches, and I'm still messing around with figuring out how to build them. I think I know what I want to do, but I'm not ready to test the theory yet.

I've also pretty much decided that I'm going to build a sit-inside surf kayak for my next project. I spent last night working on designs for a hybrid design that's part skin on frame and part sealed box construction. In the end, the decision between the 'yak and a waveski came down to how cold the damn water is around here.

I read through the site a bit. It's a polyethylene honeycomb core material.

Still snowing here, but now until June is the best part of the year, spring in the city and winter in the mountains.
