Recon photos taken by low flying P38 of low tide Normandy beach defences May 19th 1944. These photos came from HMS Volcano and were used to assist RN and allied beach parties who had the task of clearing shore explosives.

God bless all those who were soon to lose their lives.

I knew a nurse anesthetist whose B25 was shot down over Monte Cassino. He spent the rest of the war in a German POW camp.

Samsam, welcome to the happy world of boating.

You can live without the windows but you're definitely going to need a footpump before you can fire up the engine and take her out for a spin.

Another photo of USS Iowa firing 16 inch guns, if you look closely just beyond the flame you can see the projectiles flying through the air.

The Portuguese grand banker auxiliary schooner DELÃES, 50m/415gt/8.490 hundred weights of salted codfish/crew 13 and 41 dorymen; 1938 completed by António Bolais Mónica, Gafanha da Nazaré, Aveiro port, for Empresa de Pesca de Bacalhau do Porto, Lda., Oporto; 1942 DELÃES, SNAB – Sociedade Nacional dos Armadores de Bacalhau., Lda., Lisbon; 10/09/1942 she was attacked and sunken by gun machine of the U-96, Kapitanleutnant Hans Jurgen Hellrlegel at 600 miles from Cape Farwell, Greenland, while en route for Lisbon, though her conventional marks of a Portuguese neutral vessel. Fortunately the crew of 54 sheltered into 10 dories (this kind of vessels had no life-boats) was rescued by the Portuguese grand banker auxiliary wooden schooner LABRADOR, sailing on the same route for Lisbon. Sister ship OLIVEIRENSE.
Seen early 40’s at Tagus estuary, Junqueira, Lisbon, preparing for religious ceremony before her departure for the Grand Banks.

(I posted this message mainly because of the vessels beautiful lines).
