    Good luck,

The Hobie 16 used a cast aluminum ball with a plastic "chip" to allow it to slip.
An old Tornado used 2 SS washers on a flat surface with a bolt thru them.

    Do you have a picture?

All sorts of arrangements have been used. A trailer hitch ball is a common thing.

How would a metal ball work in a metal cup would you hear noise when it rotates? and what size ball is that small for my boat? I do not have a Big Boat CAT I have a 21 foot play boat!

A well placed zerk fitting will solve any noise issues.
