tranmkp "wherever you go. there you are"

can this be done well? -

With a freedom 20 inverter -2000w while under way (powerboat) use the ac - Marvair 7k btu - 6.6 amps running 13 at startup - I can spec any size battery bank and alternator.. Im sure anything is possible - what I would like to know is - is it practical/reliable to do this.

Yes no sweat , just paying for the parts.

Best for BIG AC is the Trace 2440 a 4000W 24V unit that can be ganged if needed.

A Truck 130A alt should run about $150 ( 12V)on sale at a truck parts store , be sure to select one with an external regulator , you can toss.

The better solution is a BUS alternator , used or rebuilt , $500 to $1000 but you are looking at a reliable 250-300A at 24V.

3 belts minimum or a flat belt to drive one of these great units , check with the eng mfg to find out what front sheves are aviliable.

If you have a medium duty engine ,(Detroit 50 ,60 , or 71 series there may be a power take of pad , a 24V alt will mount too.

IT does work in 12V , but everything will be working harder , and there will be little reserve.
