Racing Hydroplanes - Urgent help needed!

Hi everyone!

I've been asked to make a model of a hydroplane (OC 0.500 class, I think) as a gift for an Ex-world-champion of 1969,70,72. It's very urgent. It is also a supprise, so asking the guy for infomation is a no no. I have only the Red boat pictured below to go on (him), sent by his familiy. And The other picture is of his late brother racing.

I know nothing about hydroplanes, and despite my best efforts cannot find a great deal of infomation when searching.

I would like to make the model as accurate, and detailed as possible, to do so I need plans; ideally, but pictures/any more infomation on the craft would be great too.

I really hope someone can help?

First of all this isn't the right forum. You need to go to "hydroracer.net" or boatracingfacts.com, either of those places will have lots of information on the type of boat and motor pictured.

The type of boat is a shovel nose hydro, about four meters long and with, most likely a Koenig 4 cylinder outboard.

These boats run a surfacing prop, with the prop shaft near or just below the planing surface. If you do a search on Koenig outboards you should be able to get some pictures of the motor and the lower unit. The area between the sponsons is generally about a meter, the cockpit is generally about 500 mm across. The shaping of the back section of the deck near the transom is curved up at the outer chine, when viewed from the back.

Do some searching on those forums and perhaps you can find some more pictures of a similar boat.
