Question about wingsail foil shape

I couldn't work out what the new thinking was. Wasn't he effectively just using motor and human power to generate apparent wind?

Since the last 40 years have seen the invention of windsurfing, kiting, the modern assymetric spinnaker and modern wingsails as well as the many other ideas that have flopped, I find it hard to believe that there has been a significant lack of new thinking about rigs as he claims. Certainly motorsailing (which is effectively what he was doing) is hardly new.
