    Hi,

I have a spread sheet with Watson's method of cost prediction (from "Practical Ship Design" book) and I wanted to use it, but I was analysing it and the first formula I have (probably taken from a graph in the book) doesn't make any sense:

    Structure Cost = -590*58*log(Steel Weight)+7648.2

This negative sign gives me a negative Structure Cost!

Since the spreadsheet was made a long time ago and I don't have access to that book anymore, I don't remember how that formula is even possible!

Is anyone familiar with Watson's theory or could anyone suggest me another good cost estimate method?

    Thank you!
