Project Engineer

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: 4 Year Technical Degree Preferred,
Associates Degree Acceptable, 10 Years
practical experience may be substituted.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 3 years of fulltime work in field plus 5 years work
experience aboard large motor yachts.

You will be expected to be widely knowledgeable with respect to the design, operation, vocabulary, systems, machinery, outfit, physical characteristics and aesthetics of large motor yachts. You must be demonstrably expert in at least one area and will typically be expert in several. Based on first hand experience, previous technical training and knowledge of current industry standards and practices, you will plan and design shipboard systems for use aboard custom and production motor yachts ranging from 42-300 feet.

Your designs will be developed in AutoCAD and conform to all industry and design office standards.

Complimentary and required work will include:

• Researching, identifying, recommending and/or specifying components to be used in your design proposals;
• Gathering vendor’s technical data, specifications and engineering drawings for use by design office personal;
• Preparing verbiage for inclusion in specification documents;
• Providing guidance; advice and expertise to in-house drafters and designers with respect to system configuration, details, optimal equipment placement and installation issues;
• Consult with owner’s Engineer, Captain and Crew as necessary to ensure designs and equipment meet expectations and needs;
• Liaison with vendors, suppliers and builders with respect to design, operational and installation specifics;
• Ensure all systems and components recommended meet Classification Society requirements;
• Write technical reports which provide performance or compliance information to interested parties;
• Represent and champion design office proposals with builders during contract negotiations;
• Interface with national and international regulatory agencies to ensure all health, safety and lifesaving regulations have been complied with.

Success will require that the project engineer have excellent interpersonal skills in addition to extensive technical skills. The project engineer will be expected to be very aware of the specific design goals and operational goals established for each particular project and client engaged. Light travel (typically less than 5% of work time) and periodic attendance at boat shows or industry technical symposia may be required.
