84" Bottom

    When a boat manufacturer says that its boat has a 84" bottom is that measured in a strait line from chine to chine or chine to keel to chine?

    I'm sure it means from chine to chine, though manufacturers are not any more exempt from exaggeration than anyone else.
    I've never heard of measuring along the surface except in certain racing rules, where "chain girth" considers the measurement around the bottom.
