Preventing rust inside steel pipe or tubing?

    What about drilling holes in the metal at non load bearing points and coating the inside/outside by dipping in a tank of suitable rust preventative? Electroplating with suitable more active metal, hot dip galvanizing, paint, bluing or whatever other coating would give good protection. Maybe expensive though.

    Other outside of box possibilities are attaching sacrificial anodes inside or using DC electric current to prevent rust.
