    An even more efficient method would be to replace both engines with far smaller units that would be operating at 75% to 90% load at normal cruise

    Of course the boat would no longer plane , if it ever did.

    Engine size is usually done from the Add dept and the lowest cost option ,not from what makes sense to operate.

    Maybe we should have a new ad awareness campaign where beautiful, scantily clad women are lounging on the deck of a Bolger Illinois to combat the mental image of same on fast boats?

    The fast boat guys accept the need to use a gallon of fuel every 1/4 to 1/2 mile , and the need to load up on $6000 Stidd seats if they want to go fast in a seaway

    Its the displacement cruisers that hope to go an extra 1/2 mile on a gallon by using one better loaded engine .
