What do you plan to use this boat for?

Fishing and shallow water running. Where I live we have lots of marsh. Sometimes you have to run in just a few inches of water to get to the hole you want to fish

Just curious. Your project reminds of another similar project. More than 20 years ago a gentleman from Louisiana called me at USCG HQ inquiring how he could get a Manufacturers ID Code so he could build boats for the same area you are talking about only he was building them out of aluminum. They were also very heavy, but then he was talking about catching frogs to sell to the restaurants (apparently he had a business selling frogs to restaurants in New York City) and selling boats to folks who hunt alligators. I thought maybe he was pulling my leg, but it turns out he wasn't because we had someone go visit him. I guess you need heavy boats in that kind of water, probably lots of snags and stumps, and as you said skinny water.

Well, heavy is relative I guess. Of course a heavier boat will ride better. But, if you're drag racing, lighter is better. According to the hp calculator I found, this one is good for 90 hp. I'm putting a 70 on it. It should do what I want. The thing about the marsh, especially here, you can dig your way out of it with your outboard. This one here will weigh around 500 lbs. Tare weight. With the outboard and 4 passengers around 1100 lbs. A 70 should push it around 30 mph. I'm not looking to race, I just want to get to the holes the other boats can't get to.

Lmao! The Atchafalaya Basin is just a couple miles from me. Six mile lake is the closest to me. Lots of good fishing and shallow running here

No doubt. We really got lucky here. Lake Charles and everything west took a serious beating.
