Plywood interior?

    Two considerations that I think has been assumed, but might benefit from statement are that access to the skin fittings, and as far as possible the hull itself can literally be a matter of life or death and avoiding concentration of stress at corners will give longer life.

    Skin fittings need regular inspection and routine replacement. They can also break at sea. A plug driven into the hole can control inflow quickly if you can get to it. If you have to dismantle even a simple structure, it will be harder to find the source of the inflow as well as having to fix it with water and panic both rising.

    Also note that many designers try to round the corners of panel openings etc to avoid concentrating stress at specific points. As an engineer I realise that you know more about this than me, but for others reading this thread...

    An important and often overlooked consideration. I once was skippering a delivery, with the owner aboard, through the Florida Straights when we hit something hard and was holed. The leak being significant enough to move the engine's raw water feed, to pickup from the bilge, the owner gasped when I grabbed a fire axe and started in on his cabinetry and liner. I knew the need to get this leak stopped, he wasn't as aware and bitched, but once he saw the size of the leak, he understood. He still didn't understand, until I told him how long it would take for this leak to sink her. He was surprised it was only minutes, not hours.

    Thanks for the input! This boat is an off-shore thing with a steel hull though. One of the selling points is a unique hull design that makes it extremely resilient to running aground. :)

    After some discussion with the guys who will manufacture the interior, we came to the agreement that I supply them with the outline dimensions of the panels and components, and they decide the best method for joining the pieces. I'll just transform the design intent and fit the geometry into rather simple drawings.

    I suppose we should have considered that option from start.
