    Hello,

What is the Young's Modulus of a carbon fibre/epoxy composite as used in masts (racing dinghies if that makes a difference). I've been working on a guess of 70GPa - does that sound reasonable?

I know this is one of those 'it depends' questions (fibre orientation, resin/matrix ratios etc), but a ball-park figure would be a great help.

    Thanks,
    Toby

70 GPa is YM for standard carbon fibre, for masts high strength fibre with a YM of 85 GPa in commonly used.

Thanks - is that just the carbon or the carbon/epoxy compound?

That is for a carbon epoxy prepreg compound.
