Damn Trouty,

That was GOOD! Hit the nail right on the head. Go take a look here and you'll see how it happened in the US of A, and how it's going to happen soon in Oz: http://breakthelink.org

Great page link BillyDoc. Now added to my favourites. Many thanks for addidng fuel to keep the flame alive.

Anoucement in the UK today - The Royal Navy will in future only be able to have a warship on station in the carrabiaen (or however it's spelt!) for three months of the year following the latest round of ship cutbacks (another seven frigates and destroyers disposed of)! so that makes it easier for the pirates and drug runners to operate - since the New Year The RN alone has accounted for some £2.4 Billion of heroin confiscated (tha't not counting the Yanks and others? of course)! Nice to see our Government is doing it's bit to help!

Well I've read all ya posts on this subject. You all have good points on why to/not to cary weopons. It seems most of the time these pirates just want a little something for their trouble,"dont give them ya blood"Seems to me a smart thinking person would get even, not mad!Heres the senerio,on board"because you as a smart thinking man thought of this befor you went sailing in the bad zone"you have say maybe 2/3 bits of old flash looking stereo equipment just sitting around in ya boat,be nice to the mother F***er,invite him and his mates on board, maybe a beer or two and some nibblies if ya want to go that far.Don't forget that wallet you just left lying around with a whole pile of monopoly money:OOPS" I mean Indonesian money, hell it aint worth a bob any way(thats a nickel for our american friends)so the story goes ,they get a bit,no killing ,no blood. And as they motor away from ya yacht waving and laughting ya sip whats left of ya beer and nonchalontly pick up the remote and press the red button"always red"and blow the F**K out of them with your prepared little present.G'day mate "hows the missus & kiddies?.....Boom.thanks for dropping by".Hell its only an idear, just remember which remote is which.

Mudnut that's gotta be a neat idea, just hope you terminate 'em all 'cos sure as eggs if you don't the next time they do a board they'll be chcking everything, probably slot the poor b***** who's boat it is a matter of principal anyway!:p

And if you do end up in a wee conflict situation . . .

What kind of firepower would you expect to be facing? Nato 7.62, surely, but heavier?

Does anyone have any idea how much a typical metal deck plate can resist from the above? Steel? Aluminum? Kevlar backing in the pilothouse?

These seem like legitimate questions for this forum, given that many of us want to design our ideal boat . . . and bullet proof seems like it could be a nice feature in some situations!

But think of the weight, man think of the weight! surely all good Christians would be turning the other cheek! The rest of us? bloody good idea Billy.

Don't forget to back it up with a few bags of 'beach',

good stuff that, easy to use easy to loose!:p

Cheap as hell! (as long as ye got the bags!):D

Why Walrus,

What a good idea! And as it happens I have a supply of those bags already, because of the hurricanes, you understand. And the beach moved much closer to the house last summer . . . I expect that by the end of this one I can bag some from my front porch!

Very convenient, that.

I'm still working on the design for the Ark, though. Boat, I mean.

Wellydeckhand,It's only a vendetter if they steal from me,hell I was giving them a beer and nibblies, and being a pacifist at it.I wouldn't imagine every person coming towards my boat is a terrorist or pirate,I just thought that it would only work on the bad dudes.I dont plan on sailing with women and kids so I probably wouldn't have that "Dont F**k with my family"Attitude, and think that the best way to keep the whole thing calm would be to came across peacefull like.Hey, if they were coming at ya with the thought of no survivers a 12 gauge shot gun aint gonna stop em,thats for sure. But if they leave me alive with me boat I might just let them live, depends how I feel at the time.

Oh! terminate 'em and be damned, won't have no bleeding heart begging to feed the little buggers then will we!:p :D

Mmmm....... its like saying let kill all the thug that's robbing u in dark alley in NYC.:P

Why not try group sailling? more people and ship might look hostile to the pirates and they might just take a pic of you:cool: or try to find out the sponsor.:)
group sailing mean for a bit of cost from everybody u get a ship or native officer on board thats know the water?

Less speculate and less stress factor......... turn out u live longer and not endangered friend or family in your dream cruasade but lose only spare change.:D :D :D

I am suggesting maybe the Whale Harpoon might be legal and can rip the hull of pirate ship? Anyone? Thanks:):):)

Haven't seen to many yachts with a whaleing harpoon on the bow,if ya was going to go thru so much hassle ya might try putting a machine gun on instead. But yes, sailing in a group would have it's advantages,ya could all get robbed together!!!Wellydeckhand, are you Indonesian? If so,"where are you from exactly?"I'm planning on sailing up that way in the next 18 months or so.your insite to the area could be of help to me.

I always sail with a group ,,close range and long range friends
