And we can't have poor old Bergalia getting embarassed can we! It's not good for his disposition!

Thanks for the explanation on the Yankee problem - kind of like my Cornish Nationality, :p came down here, liked it and stayed - my excuse is the locals make me look intelligent :p (well been here some thirty odd years that I'll admit to so I'm starting to look and act like the locals now)!

they do say your not a local until you have three Grandparents buried in the local churchyard, bit of a bugger digging em up in the night and carrying 'em, box and all down here and reburying 'em without anybody noticing. [They say three cos theres a good chance they'm related to each other anyway -if you see what I mean):D

I know exactly what you mean. It's a Southern thing too . . . family trees that look like telephone poles.

I think I'll hide for a month or two now, in case anyone from down here reads this . . .

Bill

Yes there are pirates ;always have some type of fire power on your boat.I carry 12 gauge with 00buck and deerslug alternate rounds for close range and ruger mini 14.

I very much doubt that any of you guys advocating weapons on board vessels have been anywhere near the trouble spots...sulu sea, malacca straights etc...its all well and good you sitting at home on your pc telling ppl to arm themselves with a shotgun *scoffs* whilst going thru these areas, you would have to be a bloody idiot to do so....I'd be interested to see any of you (who are spouting off about weapons) to go thru these parts and brandish your 12 gauge shotgun with 00 buck and deerslug alternate rounds and see how far you get....I hope that anyone who has read this thread doesnt take you seriously, you stand more of a chance unarmed then you do armed.

Cheers

Further the chicken above - as I've always stated "you have got to know how to use the guns you carry, and be willing to use them against human targets! If you ain't stay away from the area!"

Funnily enough most of the people advocating the use of weapons can (and have in some cases) used them 'Seadog' they wouldn't be talking about them else! numpty!:p

These badboys mean business and it make sense to be prepared for them! You wouldn't boil water in a papercup over a fire would you? (maybe you would)

Sorry to sound so upty Jeff but numpties going into the 'badlands' unprepared scares the hell out of me! Amongst other things (like discussing what to use) it is hoped all this talk of guns will make the unprepared realise what they are letting themselves in for - and if this can save one person from robbery, **** or worse it will have been worth it!

thanks walruss ;apparently some poeple are like ostricts ,they stick thier head in the sand and dont pay attention to the real world. I dont know were he sails but I sailed as a fisherman in the drug belt, every fisherman I know carries firepower.......you cant call 911, 80 miles out ( furthermore yes I carrie firepower ,,,yes I have used it as a deterant )

Longliner, Yes mate, as unpalatable as it is, (as we know) there are some parts of the world (too many) where the only way to operate is to be as mean (or meaner) as everybody else! Wearing a 'bighat' with I'm a pacifist written on it, don't work when your looking down the barrel of a gun! :( with some mean half crazed nutter at the other end)! You should never have got to that stage because by then you are dead meat! The ONLY answer is to pull out a bigger gun and let a couple rip BEFORE he get's in range!

And as everybody knows when you fire a gun it should be aimed to penitrate a vital part (or to put it bluntly, kill him before he kills you!).

to everybody - thats the way it is, if that's unpalatable as a lot of us have said before "stay away"

I think you've missed my point, walrus. I travel in these sorts of areas all the time and I have no worries about being boarded, I think firing off a weapon under any circumstances in areas known for piracy is simply courting trouble. It may be appropriate for trigger-happy yobs but in the real world I live in (be interested to know where the hot spots are in Cornwall), the Indonesian Navy will be your biggest problem if you're carrying arms - gonna blow them away too? And if you want to play "my gun's bigger than yours" I suggest you look for an illegal arms dealer because that's where they are getting theirs, hope your local guns and ammo can supply you a large calibre automatic weapon or you'll need to be quick on the trigger.

Best you don't go further than 80 miles off the coast, longliner.
:-)

Why not we did in the 60's, boy

No seadog I get your point completely, you on the other hand are so damn narrow minded that you believe that because you may have got away with it up to now (I'd like to see where the hot spots are on the Swan river:p ), you'll always get away with it! If you get off your holier than thou pedestal and read what I'm saying you may notice that what this is means "You must understand and know the full use of any weapon taken, when and how to use it, its limitations and your limitations. And then YOU must take the decission whether to go to this area or not" I do NOT advocate going in all guns blazing like some movie character - But there again I do NOT advocate that like a dog (something in this term ...dog) we roll over and expect our bellies to be tickled every time - it's something to do with seeing the world how it is, warts and all, not how we'd like it to be!

Incidentally when it does go belly up for you I'll be the first one to grieve, because with a little bit of savvy it could all be avoided:D

seadog you said you were a fisherman? didnt ya use a shot gun for sharks? or did you just give them (time out in the corner)?

Hotspots on the swan! I wouldnt tell you 'walrus", you and your redneck crew would be down there shooting everyone:).Once again Walrus, Iask you to let us know of your vast experience with pirates and how you fought them off with your shotgun....

Yes longliner we did,but I dont see how that has anything to do with pirates.
All im trying to say is, If you wish to travel thru S.E Asia, be careful dont start bringing weapons out on deck, its going to cause more probs than it would if you didnt. If you want to carry weapons, all the power to you,but you guys think that these ppl are stupid #@%^@, there not, they are highly organised and have massive fire power..it would be like taking a knife to a gun fight.

seadog walruss is so old sometimes when he farts,,,,dust comes out!I think you need to read up on folks history 's before you critisize

I could say the same thing longliner..."dog" "boy" anyway you made me laugh with your last statement:) I'm sure it wasnt meant to be offensive and Im not meaning to either, even to walrus..:) I just hope the next time I'm passing thru someone doesnt open fire on me because some guy off a yacht freaked out and started blasting.
