    Hello fellow engineers,

For SA reasons I am looking for case studies, photo's of yachts that starts to sink. One of the result is that the wooden floor, the planks, les plancher, starts to float.

Can anyone deliver me a good (or call it bad) example? sinking boat.jpg

A good captain goes down with his ship, doesn't he ? What are you trying to establish ?

I recall that happened to us on a Catalina 470 -not sinking, just forgot to turn on the bilge pump before taking a shower. I turned it on and cleaned up before the skipper caught me.

I think that few people will stop to take photos when they are sinking.

Has schakel been on the schnapps ? is this the modern-day version of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic ?

^ The movie does not do much for showing the floorboards but the movie itself as well as the acting was/is gripping.

That movie, Adrift, is a pretty grim one. Next in line might be the Tom Hanks movie; Castaway. He and his volley ball named Wilson played a tremendously dramatic role. In all of the cases it was serious business and involved matters of survival.....or not.

I am sorry that I can not be of any help with the floorboard problem. I agree with Gonzo that if the boat is sinking, I am not likely to pause to photograph the floors behavior.

Is there a point you are attempting to make or more refined question, as floating floor boards are the least of your concerns if you have this much water aboard, that hasn't come over the side naturally.

I don't know what "SA reasons" are. Sex appeal ? Who knows, I suspect he just wants a picture that illustrates the floorboards floating away, in a visually dramatic way.

Not entirely true, it's a safety case for the builder of these yachts: To know Gerard Dijkstra Yachtdesign.

You still haven't clarified the question or the premise. Is there something specific you'd like an answer for or is this speculation about the actions taken during an event?

No offends but I needed this photo as an illustration. To show people when an emergence situation has begun.
