    Hi everybody,
I am looking for informations to built or modified a boat here in The Philippines.
I would like to buy a second hand bangka and modify it for my wife and I to be able to go everywhere in the Philippines, from north Luzon to South of Palawan.
The idea is to have a larger deck for comfort and storage for long travels.
Here is an example of what I find and it's similar of what I'am looking for.

I'am a very good handyman but have no knowledge about boat building.
Would appreciate a lot if anyone can give me advice of what kind of boat is go to be modified, what lenght and width would be good, what engine...
Also, looking for boat builders in Luzon who can install new motor because what ever boat I find, I want a new engine installed.

    Thank you advance.
    Olivier

    Hi Olivier !
Are you new in Ph ?
There's lots of boats different sizes .You can see what LOA interest you and ask people about local shipyards.
    Regards

The best boatbuilders are the local builders, not shipyards. And cheap too because they know where to source the materials. Where is your location or where do you intend to go as starting point?

hi Rxcomposite, thank you for your message.
I’m from Laguna but the boat will stay in Quezon province.
I’m wondering if any bangka width can be used to do a larger deck like on my picture. Or if I will need to find already a boat with a large width. Also, what would be the good length to be able to navigate in deep sea. Or maybe the width is not important as the large deck will expand on the outriggers?
I saw many of your posts/reply, are you a boat builder in the Philippines?

Used to be. We built hundreds of fiberglass banka in Panay Island but I am no longer connected with boatbuilders in PI. Just several that keeps me as a consultant.

There are many builders that will build to your specs like Cebu or GenSan. Laguna lake can but they are landlocked. Also the boat style is flat nose. Different regions, different styles. Tagalog, Batangas, Bisaya, Mindanao types to name a few. PM me as I have several contacts. You may talk to them directly. One is in Cebu but they build fiberglass hulls. Wood hull is not permitted by MARINA, the regulating body.

Last I checked the Marina, they won't. Maybe for a private or "tourist" boat they will. Will check.

It is actually marine plywood over timber frames coated with marine epoxy paint. Engine is used diesel engines and transmission with keel cooling.

Look down. There are similar threads popping about the local banka.

Hi, being new in this forum, I can’t pm yet. Can you pm me first?
When you say fiberglass hull, do you mean wood and marine plywood hull cover with fiberglass?
or you mean a fiberglass hull made from a mould?

Looks like what you want is a liveaboard vessel. Should be in the 45 foot range. You need to have a closed deck, which will change the statutory requirement. Traditional banca is an open deck design with awnings.

Have inquired with my friends if wood construction for traditional boat building is still allowed.

Please check email if it was sent. Have not receive anything even in the junk box. Rx can be small letter. It is not case sensitive.

My referral (to boatbuilders) does not mean I am involved. The have their own NA as mandated by the statutory rules.
