Far easier to tie the gear box into the engines cooling system.

Is the entire package to be leel cooled.

For a fine built setup check out Walter Keel cooling Co that has been doing keel cooling for 5 decades.

In the older huckins to cool the veedrive, they put whats equivelant to a generater sized heat exchanger. the oil from the veedrive goes through one side and a small portion of the raw water being pumped through the motor is diverted to said heat exchanger and out charged though the side of the boat

My Tecnomarine gearboxes (now part of TwinDisc) are cooled by a copper tube that goes through them, ending with a hose stub on both ends. The raw water pump feeds cold water to it, the output connects to the engine's heat exchanger manifold.
