Loisir 3000

The Loisir 3000 has been sailed in the Le Defi Petit Navire de Douarnenez. It was designed and built by Frenchman, Maurice Gahagnon. Now here's a guy who conceptualizes fabulous boats, actually builds them and then successfully sails in front of thousands of enthusiastic and very knowledgable fans from all over Europe in one of the premier events for performance craft.

Pretty neato boat, has a whole different range of stability and lifting thingies.

Sort of "inspector gadget-like"

The question is, does more = more or does the amount of things he have add more parasitic weight and drag than necessary.

 

I love it: a trimaran with planing hulls and foils! Cool..

LEISURE 3000 Maurice and Francois Gahagnon Lys - World record speed sailing in Class C March 15, 1988 in Brest at a speed of 25.87 knots record he has reworked the following year with 26.95 knots - can browse today ' Today at speeds approaching 30 knots - Measuring 10.60 m in length with a width of 6.70m foils navigation position . The sail area is 27.5 m2 and weighing about 270 kg .

 

The neat canard foiler tri of Maurice Gahagnon, years ago, before he got some sponsorship, used to be called OK Shape - which is also a neat name, and even then the boat was very fast at various Speed Weeks. It is good to see there are still crazy blokes (les gars tres fous) out there building things. His canard makes El Sid appear très bougeoise.
Doug, that boat is really a true foiler - with small, flat buoyancy floats, (like YPE) not a planer, check out the angle of attack, they're more like bent back sleds designed to get the platform quickly up onto the foils. Uh, oh, here we go again.

Yes. And in the sailing photograph Loisirs 3000 is foiling, wouldn't you say? The U shaped foils make a lot of sense, more strength and support plus twin daggerboard upper sections for beating ... but maybe too much drag with the number of foils immersed?

Windward side maybe but its not clear. Looks to me like the lee "hull" is in the water shooting water out behind it?
