    No, i 'bumped' into him once or twice at Int. conferences but that's all.

    Unlike Savitsky, i met him... and had a nice long chat with him when I was travelling around the US, and was contemplating doing a Masters at SIT.

    A tremendous loss. Rest in Peace knowing your legacy will live on. I can't recall ever meeting him, but many people I worked with knew him. He was a pioneer.

    I saw him several times at SNAME Chesapeake Powerboat Symposiums. Data from tests he was involved with fifty plus years ago continues to be used. The 2014 book Performance by Design: Hydrodynamics for High-Speed Vessels is a compendium of his research results and design philosophy for planing powerboats.

    I had the honor and good fortune to have worked with Don on numerous projects over the last 35 years. He was a remarkable man and demanding, but fun, to work with.

    I'm typing this right now from a temporary trailer office, supporting the trials of yet another advanced craft developed by folks who work for the group of USN engineers and naval architects that Don once headed, before he retired and started DLBA...and where he was instrumental in establishing an environment of technical excellence that continues.
