Painting the top of my houseboat

This is my first post and I appreciate any advice.
I have a houseboat with a fiberglass roof that needs to be re-painted.
The existing surface is not gel coated and I'm looking for a flat finish that will be walked on. The boat is under cover and the existing finish is in pretty decent condition. I've been told that an acrylic exterior paint will work.
I plan on doing a good cleaning, pressure washing then priming before painting.
Any suggestions?

Yep, your plan seems reasonable and inexpensive. For a roof that's going to be walked on, might I suggest you consider "elastomeric" roof paint. This stuff is designed for a roof, is rubbery, tough and offers good under foot traction. "Kool Seal" is a common brand. It's thicker than regular paint.

If wishing to go the regular house paint route, use "porch and deck" enamel, which seems to hold up the best. Lastly, scuff up the washed surface before primer.

 

Low sheen acrylics are not typically slippery, but if there is the possibility of coming to grief if you slip over, you can add a proprietary non-slip additive for extra assurance.

 

Rust-0leum has a new deck paint that is water based called Restore. It comes in different viscosity. The thicker paint has a coarser pattern. I used it on my boat and really like it.

 

I used Restore by Rustoleum to finish the deck around my swimming pool. I think it makes a great safety surface.

 

Rustoleum Restore has a rather bad reputation, I'd go a different route.
