According to MsNBC, the Ady Gil has sunk. Waste of a unique boat, I'd say.

Have I missed the post where someone proved that the whaling was actually being done in waters that are Legally acknowledged as Australian by the international community? The only thing I've seen is that 4 or 5 nations agree, and the rest say it is wrong and they are international waters.

Given that we have not yet had proof that the Japanese Whaling there is actually illegal, there by making any action to "prevent illegal activity" as lawful as going into a slaughter house and spraying the workers with acid.

I also question the Citizen's arrest view, as it is generally far more narrow than many people seem to think it is, at least in most parts of the world. Also in this case the crew would be bound by the laws of the boat's flag. (Which I believe was New Zealand.) Would "illegal whaling" be a crime in which the persons would face more than 3 years in jail for?

Every country has it own laws on citizens arrest. In uk it must be with "reasonable force" going over "reasonable force" would have you banged up.

    What is reasonable force?

No. You're offering him as an excuse, for people and nations not minding their own business instead of interfering with other people and nations. If you're going to post it, at least stand behind it....or delete it.:)

"Look what happened the last time we minded our own business instead of other people's business....we wound up with a Hitler!"

It's an absolute and amazing rule on the internet: no matter what the subject is, if a thread lasts long enough someone will drag Hitler and the Nazis into it.

Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

If you feel I've misunderstood and misrepresented your post, I encourage you to explain exactly why Hitler is relevant to this thread, and what he's an example of.

OK. Lets go back to my post #199.
I said:- Thats the attitude which allowed the rise of HITLER and WW2.

It's THE ATTITUDE I was talking about----Not Hitler.

The cowardly, gutless attitude of the British and French pollies in the 1930's.
If they had stood up against Hitler in 1933-34 WW2 may never have happened.
The parallel I am making is the Australian Govt not taking firm action-- when an Australian warship on the scene might make all the difference.

Tell me, what would happen if the Jap whaling fleet started harvesting whales in USA waters. You don't even need one guess.

Of course the only real question is whether the Australian Govt is REALLY able to claim those territorial waters.

    MAYBE NOT.
