Outdrive ratio

VP gears are of really high quality, and they are also one of the most expensive. Gears alone make little sense. The housing, shafts, etc. have to be cast and machined which is not just very expensive, but requires a mechanical engineer to design.

I can grab any lower unit from outboard or sterndrive but all of them sucks because of high reduction ratos.

And yes they are very cheap  like propellers are also very cheap

You asked about a jet drive, but want a lower unit. ?? Designing a gear box that works underwater is not easy or cheap, neither are good quality gears. If you are only looking for gears, why are you set on lower units? Use uppers.

Where I ask about jet drive ?
Idea of use upper gears in lower unit it went through my head. But they are probably to big.

I called the sterndrive guy , only one option:
Alpha gen2 . None of you wrote that the others have the reverse at the top.
I have question about power rating of lower unit :
300hp gas or 150hp diesel . Big difference. It's torque only or torque pulse issue ?

That is because the reverse is on the bottom.

Do both engines have the same torque? How many cylinders do each have? What RPM do they run at? All three are relevant.
