Hi, I was thinking about swapping my 1987 4.3 OMC to a 1989 5.0 OMC. I read everywhere that the outboard drive should match up but my question is regarding the motor mount position. Are they identical or is the 5.0 motor mount location slightly different? My 4.3 is shot and I am getting a good deal on this 5.0 and want to know what I'm getting myself into lol.

Any info would be great, thanks.

No, the mounts are in a different location. The 4.3 is a shorter block. You should also measure that there is enough length for the new engine to fit. The gearing in the 4.3 is 1.65 instead of 1.50. You could install a higher pitch propeller, but it won't be as efficient as the proper gearing.
