I have a 1976 Hawaiian with a ford 302 in it. It starts up and runs and revs fine in neutral but when I put it in drive it will shut off or when it does work it will backfire while getting into higher rpms. Has anyone else had a similiar problem on theres?

Fixed it, it had the wrong firing order. But now when it dies it is hard to get going and sometimes have to keep cranking on and off for like thirty minutes to get going be for it will fire up

Stop stop stop right there or you will burn out the starter 30 minutes????

Getting it checked by some one that knows what they are doing will be half the price of a starter.

So many things it could be,-- impossible to diagnose on the internet with your explanations

Remember that Fords have a different cylinder numbering that any other engine. Seems like the timing might have been right before.
