Tough trot for you, but sounds like things are on the up, how is your wife ?

nope, I retired, then, my wife got cancer, so i went back to work. Afterwards, I retired again, but govrtnment said I had to repay a whole years SS benefit, and cut my check by a third for three years running. My computer fried and hadn't the money to replace it. Everything is better now, financially. glad to be back.
Hmmm, does one choose to disagree on the internet with someone casually refuting human caused global warming?

Sea ice in the Southern Ocean defies predictions.

Calm yourself. The sky isn't falling.

Thanks Mr Efficiency

My wife recovered after surgery and chemotherapy.

Disagree with me all you like, Eric ruttan

CO2 isn't the control knob of climate warming.

Right. Whew. If it was not for your calm sure self, we would all be panicing. Your steady hand to show us the way. To point out what we missed.

But for those of us made of weaker stuff than you...

No, forget it. I was gonna mock you all the way through this. But, you have had hard times that speak to me in ways that effect me.

So I'll ignore your insults, and just ask...

Is it your goal to be right?
Are you saying that because one place has increased ice, the entire global warming thing is a hoax?
Same with this one paper. Since it tells you what you want to hear, all the rest are false?
Have huge ice depletions occured? Is it more or less than the gains. Is it even close? Do you agree we are seeing ice melts that havent happened in 100000 years?
Did you check your source for a rebuttal, so as not fall into that all too human thing of conformational bias?
Do you understand that the author of the paper disagrees with how you are using it?

For the reader, who has surely googled the papers title.

The sky isn't falling.

Welcome back, Yob.

It appears you are five years behind in your reading. I posted the most recent Antarctic ice mass survey a few posts back, and while they agree that large areas of the Antarctic are gaining ice, overall there is a net loss of about 200 billion tons of mass each year on average. So while you may be correct that the sky isn't falling, it does appear that the seas are rising (for reasons including, but not limited to, polar ice melt).

How's your Vega catamaran project coming?

An Ancient Type of El Niño Could Awaken Because of Climate Change

Thanks to the climate crisis, El Niño may have some competition. A new study published in Science Advances on Wednesday shows that as early as mid-century, global warming could cause an ancient climate pattern similar to El Niño in the Indian Ocean to reawaken. It would throw weather further into disarray, particularly in places in the global south that depend on rainfed agriculture.

Read my post again. All the way through this time. I posted alerts Antarctica was gaining ice from several years, concluding with a Jan 2019 and Jan 2020 alert that they don't know whether there is a net gain or slight loss of ice.

Sea ice melting is no threat.to anybody. Ice displaces it's own weight of water. when it melts it fill that displaced hole in the water. Doesn't raise sea level by a single drop. Accumulating land ice, reduces sea level, because it reduces free surface water.

Thanks for the welcome. You are a trooper, keep banging your drum. I'll attempt to keep things sane.

Antarctica’s role in sea level rise
Right now, Antarctica’s contribution to sea level rise can be measured in millimeters. On the Antarctic Peninsula, where ice shelf collapses have led to measurable glacier acceleration, the effect on sea level is currently just a tenth of a millimeter—about the width of a human hair. But if....

Sea level rise equal to width of a human hair isn't scary. What is intemded to be scary, is all the what ifs!

what IS scary is all the what if-ing based on scanty data!

Ocean warming
Although seasonal cycles and historically low sample sizes have complicated scientists’ attempts to detect long-term temperature changes in the Southern Ocean, a temperature record extending back to 1925, with frequent measurements, exists around South Georgia Island. Those measurements show a warming of 4.1°F over 81 years in the upper 500 feet of the ocean, according to a 2013 review paper in Polar Record.

Yelling fire in a crowded theater or bomb in an airport, is illegal. Why isn't panic mongering illegal? Because it's promulgated and supported by powerful political forces.

now THAT is scary!

to save you from having to look back, this below, was the 2020 concluding alert from the previous post.

Sea ice in the Southern Ocean defies predictions.

As you yourself said, the expansion and contraction of sea ice has (almost) no bearing on sea level rise.

The authors of the above article note that Antarctic sea ice is slightly growing, while Arctic sea ice is diminishing at a very fast rate. Furthermore, none of the scientists involved in the Antarctic sea ice study suggest that they think that AGW is not happening. But they are trying to understand all the parameters that affect sea ice growth and melting -- which is exactly what I'd expect from scientists.

...Because it's promulgated and supported by powerful political forces.
Seems to me that anti-science, anti-rationale, anti-AGW political forces are currently in the ascendancy -- at least in the U.S. One can only hope that this nightmare will soon come to an end.
:)

I don't see anyone anti science. I see people trying to invest their political agendas with the respect science generally reeves. We are in a warming period. Happens every thousand years. Medievil warm period, Roman warm period, Minoan warm period, counting backwards. There are quite a few just get numbers rather than names. There are ice core graphs that show temperature and CO2 levels have no corollary. To have causality, you must establish a corollary, but remember a corollary does NOT itself establish causality. The left is so infamous for lying, sane people simply won't believe anything they say. We have excellent reason not to.
