I never said such people don't exist. I simply pointed out they aren't as typical of average Americans as you think. If they were, Obama would've been dead on arrival as soon as he got labeled a socialist, instead of being elected President twice. The same sort of folks used to carry on about Roosevelt being a socialist, and he kept getting elected until he died.... so they weren't a majority even back then.

some people would rather have free money than freedom.
and they don't care it bankrupts the country, starts a bloody civil war, or if their grandkids inherit a huge debt!
They'll even vote for socialists to get temporary free stuff!

I guess I must've screwed up, then; I didn't get any free stuff from anyone. I've worked for everything I have. And I'd still rather have Obama as my President, instead of someone from the sorry pack of clown candidates the conservatives put up last time. I mean, c'mon... Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Mike Huckabee?!?

What you're saying is that the majority of voters are greedy, shortsighted fools, who've been bought off by the administration one way or another. And I'm not buying it. Apparently I have a higher opinion of my fellow Americans than you do....

nope, that's not what i'm saying.
what i'm saying is, quite a few voters voted for obama because he is black. others voted for him because they like govt handouts. others voted for him because theyre democrats, others voted for him because theyre socialists, and some voted for him as lesser of evils. and i still believe some voted for him even though they are dead.

and he didn't win by a landslide.

    and i'm not republican.
i'm a constitutional strict constructionist. the constitution says what it means and means what it says. and i intend to support and defend it against all enemies , in particular the domestic variety of enemy!

anybody wanting to ignore or corrupt the meaning, or other wise trash the constitution is an enemy of the constitution, and my enemy!

i guess your ( USA) socialist are like the ones in OZ and the UK ( i have spent my working life half in each)
They keep getting sucked in by the rhetoric and always get the same result, a trashed economy and they lose their job....they never learn ( and the rich get richer)
Thats true since I could read the newspaper (last 40+years) maybe it was different before?

Quite a few voted against Obama because he's black too; don't even try to deny it. I suspect the votes for and against him because of his skin color probably balanced out....

And despite what you'd like to believe, many people voted for him simply because they thought he was the best candidate out of those running for the job. That isn't the same as thinking he's the least bad candidate, the so-called 'lesser of two evils.'

I've noticed 'strict constitutionists' tend to be selective constitutionists. They also have supernatural powers: they can talk to the dead, and ascertain exactly what each and every man who signed the original document was thinking at the time -- and what they think should be done about things that didn't exist in their lifetime, like airplane safety regulations and machine guns. ;)

By the way, a note for you folks who complain about non-boating topics being allowed here: you should go take a look at sailnet.com. They have threads with titles like, "Why does God allow evil?" I kid you not.....

What a Black President..... Socialism, freedom, constitutions have to do with global warming, climate change is a better question.

Best to get back on topic.

You mean we should get back to our off-topic discussion, and stop going off-off-topic?;)

The tie-in is that a lot of American climate change deniers are convinced it's a hoax, being foisted off on us as part of an evil political conspiracy by socialists, liberals and Democrats.....

climate change is ongoing, has been since the planet began.
When someone tells me, there's gonna be a bad lunar eclipse way off in the future, that we can't hold them accountable for a bad prediction because won't be here, but they want control of our money and our lives to somehow prevent a disastrous bad future lunar eclipse, then I say, they're a charlatan and a con and only idiots would buy in to their scheme.

I see no difference between lunar eclipses and climate change. Both been happening since creation, both naturally ocurring, and both immune to mankinds tampering or influence.

The real issue is, I and others like minded, think man has a right to be here, is a noble creature, and has god given individual rights to freedom.

Socialists think man is evil, a blight on the planet, and needs to be controlled, if not obliterated. Since they don't believe in god, they don't believe man has any individual inalienable rights. Only priveledges dispensed or with held by the state for "the common good".

    ENEMY!

How about asteroid/meteor defense? Rocks have been hitting the earth since the beginning and caused the dinosaurs to go extinct! The Chelyabinski meteor got people across the world thinking about what we could do to defend our planet from calamity.

What a bunch of hooey. Of course, I mean that in the kindest, gentlest and most respectful way possible....:p

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1894 by Frances Bellamy -- who was a Christian Socialist and a practicing Baptist minister. That's right: a Baptist preacher who was also a card-carrying socialist. How do you square him, and those like him, with your claim that socialists don't believe in God?

And while we're at it: it's Christians, not atheists, who believe man is born in one state or another of original sin -- up to and including Total Depravity, depending on which bunch you listen to. Atheists don't believe man is born tainted with evil and has to be saved from himself, Muslims don't believe it, neither do Jews... but most Christians do.
