    "I had a dream"

Well I did actually- and please keep this under your hat- this is my million dollar ideal...

Weird- last night I dreamt that a couple of us were walking by a very modern window filled home set right on the waters edge.
I was sagely commenting on how close and vulnerable she was with a storm brewing when a overhead cable appeared and just plucked the whole building up and lofted it away to a temporary storage rack inshore (and uphill).
The home was sort of squarish (container like), and the operation was like shifting containers about a lot with a overhead gantry crane.

That aside- we did a home visit up in Atlantic City NJ last weekend.
I visited a home damaged by Sandy and got to see the storm damage first hand.

This building had it's footers undercut by water and was a waiting comment by engineers on how to fix it while also waiting on the word from FEMA as to if it will be required to be raised by some feet.
The owner said a couple of interesting things.

    1) He has seen regular flooding since he moved in- so this property is demonstrably too low and too close to the shore.

    2) 1/3 of all homes there (in this particular neighborhood), are condemned due to Sandy damage, and will be demolished.

    3) Property values remain high- the land is still sought after and will be continued to be built on.

Hows that old saw go- "You can lead them to water, but you can't make them think".

Dorothy Parker was once asked at a dinner party to use the word 'horticulture' in a sentence. She promptly came back with, 'you can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think.':D

    This shows where we visited:

    oc1.jpg

The drainage ditches are clearly visible where the land was trying to be reclaimed.

Here is a further out view which perhaps nicely delineates where the development line 'should' be:

    oc2.jpg

Off the barrier islands and above the wetland line...

The grey areas out on those barrier islands are of course cheek to jowl solid developments.
Homes, lives and industry set on the sand and waiting for the next storm.

If it is a tragedy in the making- surely of the Greek kind where we sow the seeds of our own destruction....

Yah... the google shot looks like a printed circuit board from the back of my transistor radio.

    Hideous over development.

All you can hope is the the government is smart and refuses to rebuild the infrastructure.

    Matthew 7:24-27 New International Version

    The Wise and Foolish Builders

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
