The post and photo are misleading and dishonest. The Aral Sea did not dry up because of climate change. To imply it did is lying. The Aral Sea dried up as a direct result of Socialist policy to divert water from flowing from its source to grow wheat and other endeavors.

    Stop lying!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aral_Sea
"Formerly one of the four largest lakes in the world with an area of 68,000 square kilometres (26,300 sq mi), the Aral Sea has been steadily shrinking since the 1960s after the rivers that fed it were diverted by Soviet irrigation projects."

Are you having trouble with your knee jerking again, or are you due for a refresher course in reading comprehension? Commander Hadfield did not say that the drying up of the Aral Sea was caused by global warming. He said:

[The Aral Sea] “was a huge lake, a great body of water, it was almost like a small ocean” ...“And now, there is almost nothing – it’s just sand. And that is a result of our decisions, of what we have done...”

“It’s far from Canada, and you may say, ‘This is not our problem,’ but that’s not true. Big lakes are not unlimited. There is a limit of how much water there is in the rivers, in the lakes”...“It’s very important for us to think of what we are doing...”

“During my life and my experience, over the last 20 years, the changes there have been amazing. And that was human change – change that has occurred thanks to what humans have done...”

“Climate is changing naturally, and perhaps as a result of what we have done, our influence...”

“And so maybe we just need to be more responsible in the decisions we make and think of the longer term, more than five years, more than the upcoming elections, more than just one lifespan, and think about our grandchildren and even further...”

You're a little quick with the accusations of lying there, Hoyt... maybe you should try to understand what what people are saying, before you call them liars.

No one said the Aral Sea dried up as a result of climate change. They said it's an example of human activity impacting our environment, and maybe we should think about climate change and the future -- because climate change is another example of humans having an impact on the environment.

Originating from human activity ...anthropogenic climate change.

The photo of the dried up Aral Sea was posted by imaginary number and came straight from the Wikipedia article which says what caused it. It was meant to mislead by making one think climate change caused the drying. That is the lie and it was the poster's responsibility. It was deliberately deceptive.

Hoyt, sometimes I have difficulty telling whether you are just being a "Troll, apparently", or whether you're having real problems with dementia.

If it makes you feel any better, I quite agree with the Wikipedia article that the Aral Sea is drying up because of extensive irrigation, as is the Dead Sea, the Salton Sea, Lake Mead, Lake Chad, Mono Lake, and Tulare Lake (all located in socialist countries -- NOT!).

If you right-click on the image in my post, click on VIEW IMAGE (at least in the Firefox browser), and then look at the URL for that image, you will see that the photo came from the Florida Today website, not the Wikipedia website.

But where the photo came from is irrelevant (it probably originally came from NASA). As Troy also tried to explain to you, the point of Commander Hadfield's statement was to give an example of where human actions are causing major environmental degradation, and to suggest that we might want to consider whether our CO2 emissions will also cause serious undesirable environmental damage.
