What if man could create cloud cover that would reflect the sun’s rays back into the universe and thus shade the earth to keep it cool? Sounds far-fetched? Guess what. It’s one of the top innovative ideas of preventing global warming and scientists are working on it to make it a reality! They have come up with a ‘Cool Yacht’ to do the trick.
Professors John Latham and Stephen Salter have designed a fleet of that would pump fine particles of sea-water into clouds, thickening them to reflect more of the Sun’s rays.
Calculations show that if there is about 3% increase in the amount of sunlight reflected back into the space, the cooling will balance the global warming caused by increased CO2 in the atmosphere.

The idea of a fleet of “cloudseeders”(cooling yachts), was born from a remark made by Prof. Lathem’s son Mike, decades ago. They were on a mountainside in North Wales, looking west towards Ireland. He asked why clouds were shiny at the top but dark at the bottom. Lathem then explained how clouds were mirrors for incoming sunlight!
In order to deploy this scheme to produce adequate cooling, the fleet would need to spray sea-water droplets continuously over a significant fraction of the world’s oceanic surface, at a total rate of around 50 cubic metres per second. Professor Stephen Salter has developed plans for a novel form of spray-droplet production (involving high-velocity propulsion of sea-water droplets), and has designed a wind-powered unmanned vessel which can be remotely guided to regions where cloud seeding is most favorable. Instead of sails, these vessels use a much more efficient technique to power the yacht- Flettner rotors.

Doesn't sound very practical to me, but it's an intriguing idea. Thanks for posting it.

I might question the reporter's description of Flettner rotors as more 'efficient' than sails... I'm skeptical about anything with moving parts being more effective (or reliable) than a traditional set of sails.

And of course, the main problem is that given the political and economic obstacles, anything we do to counter climate change is probably going to be too little too late.

Man is an insignificant factor in the climate and has no power to affect the climate in any direction.

HA HA. Good one hoyte. Man is the cause global warming. Maybe god was to busy to change the climate so he left us to do it.

Man is not the cause. Global warming is caused by 2 things: The Sun and the Tides.

Yup... Orcutt doesn't amount to much....he carries a zero rating on environmental issues in Washington and a 100 percent rating on gun issues with the NRA

according to Orcutt..... " I always say, the best gun control is to place a firearm firmly into the hand of a law abiding citizen. If that’s not enough, then said citizen should use both hands. "

    Sad .

I'm not sure why you think Orcutt's opposition to gun control laws is relevant to climate change....

When guns are fired, they combust material, which is some form of CO2?
Now times that by the far too many rounds fired globally each year and that's a lot of pollution?
Ban guns and cigarettes and that'd go a long way towards climate control!!!
Oh - and paint all our roofs and roads white?

CO2 is not pollution! It is plant food.

Paint the roads white is a great way to increase CO2 from the combustion of the wrecked cars by blinded drivers. Does the Sun never shine in the Land of Shamrocks?

Actually yes it does.... Just not often. Speaking of blinding roads - when it did shine, the wet roads combined with low sun was blinding!
    White boats and cars?
CNN had a feature on a European heat wave that said that when too hot, plants actually stopped producing oxygen and produced co2!
I was dubious but you know that like the Internet, tv never lies......
