I don't trust any of the climate the numbers coming from NASA or any agency currently under the Obama Administration as it has been too heavily propagandized and politicized.

A US man shot and killed the host of a TV program about shooting - while the host was visiting his wife.

Wayne Bengston, 41, then beat his wife, took his two-year-old son to a relative's house and drove to his home about 40 kilometres away, where he apparently killed himself, police say

New York Times | Report Blames Climate Change for Extremes in Australia

SYDNEY, Australia — Climate change was a major driving force behind a string of extreme weather events that alternately scorched and soaked large sections of Australia in recent months, according to a report issued Monday by the government’s Climate Commission.

A four-month heat wave during the Australian summer culminated in January in bush fires that tore through the eastern and southeastern coasts of the country, where most Australians live. Those record-setting temperatures were followed by torrential rains and flooding in the more densely populated states of New South Wales and Queensland that left at least six people dead and caused roughly $2.43 billion in damage along the eastern seaboard…

But the report from the Climate Commission, titled “The Angry Summer,” argues that the frequency and ferocity of recent extreme weather events indicate an acceleration that is unlikely to abate unless serious steps are taken to prevent further changes to the planet’s environment…

Washington Post | Climate change will open up surprising new Arctic shipping routes

A new study in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Science, led by UCLA geographer Laurence Smith, looks at how the Arctic will change under even modest levels of global warming. Through computer simulations, the researchers found that open-water vessels will be able to, in theory, cross the Northwest Passage and North Sea Route regularly in the summer by 2050 without icebreakers. And icebreaker ships may be able to ram right through the North Pole:

The blue lines show the fastest routes available for common open-water ships during the summer, while the red lines show routes available for Polar Class 6 ships with moderate icebreaker capacity. By 2040-2059, there are many more routes…

The UCLA write-up for the study talks up the unexpectedness of this finding. “Nobody’s ever talked about shipping over the top of the North Pole,” Smith says. “This is an entirely unexpected possibility.” But the paper itself also notes some of the potential problems that could emerge. To date, countries have few rules in place for safeguarding the Arctic environment or for rescuing stranded commercial ships. It’s rarely been an issue before.

One last note: There’s also the possibility that this paper might even be understating the situation and the Arctic summer sea ice could wither even faster than climate models project. In 2012, the extent of Arctic sea ice hit a record low in August and computer models have, to date, underestimated the pace of sea-ice decline…

Camels may be called the ships of the desert, but ancient, mummified bones dug from the tundra are confirming that the animals now synonymous with the arid sands of Arabia actually developed in what is now Canada's High Arctic. And those remains from Ellesmere Island — the most northerly spot to ever yield camel bones — are also raising important questions about the future of the warming Arctic.

About three-and-a-half-million years ago, Strathcona Fiord on the island's west-central coast would have looked a lot more like a northern forest than an Arctic landscape, said paleobotanist Natalia Rybczynski of the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa…

Back when this camel was browsing leaves and shoots, the entire global climate averaged about two or three degrees warmer than it is now. That's about as much a difference as scientists say the Earth can undergo today without catastrophic changes.

"This is a super-important time analogue," Rybczynski said. "This is a period of time that's being referred to as a historical analogue for future warming." Climate models suggest that if the entire globe averages a two-degree increase, the Arctic will experience a much greater increase of seven to 10 degrees.

What has the news report have to do with climate or boating? Wait; maybe the murderer fled the scene of the crime in a boat? More lives are saved each year by gun owners than are lost to gun crimes by a wide percentage.

They used cloud-seeding in an attempt to induce rain -- not only to wash the air, but to empty the clouds so it wouldn't rain on opening day.

The Chinese spend an incredible amount of money and effort on cloud seeding; they're convinced it works.

Don't let the urgent displace the important...

The difference is that the rhino horn works, as long as you believe it will.

The cloud seeding? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If I remember right, some studies have concluded that on the average it increases the likelihood of rain by about 10% overall. But the results are pretty variable, and differ from one region to another.

Wonder what all that silver iodide China is blanketing its soil with does to people, plants and animals in the long run? Maybe nothing, if they're lucky.
