This is what awareness of climate change and environmental degradation is supposed to reveal..... that You cant have it all.

Either you go for personal enrichment with GDP always rising or you forget GDP and concentrate on protecting the Global Commons, quality of life..

I'm starting to agree with you. When someone pretends the British aren't Europeans, so he can claim no Europeans except the Russians ever meddled in Afghanistan and bag on the Americans for being there, he's rewriting history, culture and geography in one fell swoop. And that may be ridiculous, but it isn't really entertaining.

Reality check: that little country 22 miles off the French coast is part of Europe, historically and culturally, at least as much as Russia (which lies mostly in Asia) is. The British started meddling in Afghanistan in the early 1800's, and between 1838 and 1919 there were three -- count them, THREE -- Anglo-Afghan wars.

Google "was Afghanistan ever a colony".
Meddle - yes. Colony - no.

You're quibbling. Afghanistan was a puppet state of Britain for generations, which means it can be lumped in with other European colonies/European-dominated parts of the world. And there's absolutely no doubt that much of the trouble in the Middle East and Africa, plus Vietnam and the rest of Indochina, has roots in the days when the French, Spanish, English, Dutch, etc., were domineering colonial powers.

That puts Europeans in a poor position to be claiming the moral high ground when it comes to American influence and actions overseas -- especially since our actions against Al Queda have contributed to the safety of your own countries, at relatively little cost to you.

And what's this nonsense about Bush's pipeline and Bush's oil in Afghanistan? Last time I checked there was neither oil nor pipeline, although there's a multi-nation proposal to build a natural gas pipeline across part of the country in the future.

You could say that America was a colony of Europe and much of the trouble in the world today is as a result of that too.....
I whole heatedly agree that countries should stay out of each others business and that invading, taking control and setting up puppet governments is ridiculous.
It seems to me that alqueda had little against South Africa or Ireland.
Why? They didn't meddle in others politics or invade anyone.

They weren't really needed in either place; both countries have enough homegrown troubles.:)

But seriously: if you check, you'll find out that Muslim extremist have killed a lot more fellow Muslims, right at home or next door, than they have Europeans or Americans. I don't think you can blame the US or European countries when Wahhabi-influenced Sunni terrorists blow up Shi'ite pilgrims....

Banned for repeated personal attacks, if I remember correctly. He did seem a lot less mellow towards the end; maybe he was stressing in his personal life for one reason or another.

Therefore having one would cause you too much anxiety. Don't insult gun owners by calling them gun fanatics.
