Please watch this and realize the US government will be piling up so much debt in future years no taxation will make any difference, unless they simply take every last dollar we have. And then it still wont make any difference.

The only answer is to not spend so much money, and they cant stop. Our elected congress and president are addicted to spending money that does not even exist.

The other solution is for the FED to keep devaluing the dollar till it is worth-less. Which FED seems intent on monetizing the debt even though they made assurances otherwise. As in they get on the computer, enter a few keystrokes and generate trillions of new dollars to pay back older debts.

As the earth warms 'green belts' will certainly move north. But they may not create the net carbon sinks you anticipate. For one, arctic soils are not very fertile, and thus it will take a long time before they will support either dense forests or productive agriculture.

Second, the warming of the permafrost is anticipated to allow vast regions of peat to decay, releasing CO2 and methane.

And third, the warming of the boreal forests appears to be accompanied by drought, which is stressing the forests and contributing to record forest fires in Siberia, as well as huge forest losses by bark beetles in North America.

New York Times: Profits on Carbon Credits Drive Output of a Harmful Gas

Some time ago the United Nations established a carbon credit system where by, in the developing world, credit would be given for the elimination of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. The more dangerous the gas, the more they would be compensated for reducing emissions from manufacturing operations.

Companies found they could earn big bucks by destroying an obscure, but problematic, waste gas normally released in the manufacturing of a widely used coolant gas. Perversely, this has induced plants in the developing world to increase production of the coolant gas — a huge problem because the coolant itself contributes to global warming and depletes the ozone layer. The high output of harmful coolant gases keeps their price very low, discouraging the switch to less-damaging gases.

A few somewhat disjointed and random (but related) observations:

Our government spending is going to go up some every year, no matter what we do. Even if you ignore everything else, the simple fact is that the population is growing, which means it costs more to provide even basic infrastructure, services and regulation.

Most of the folks running around with their hair on fire screaming about the deficit are also, and at the same time, declaring the only way to save the country is by cutting taxes for big business and the wealthy -- even though they're already paying the lowest effective rates in modern history... listening to them is like hiring a financial planner to straighten out your household budget, and having him tell you: "your biggest problem is that you're spending too much money. So the first thing we need to do is put a stop to that, by telling your boss to cut your wages."

How do you balance the federal budget by lowering taxes on the rich? Obviously, you don't. All that does is throw more of the burden onto the backs of middle-income folks instead.... it's quite telling that the only tax cuts the Republicans wanted to get rid of this last year were Obama's cuts for middle and lower-income working people.

All the foofaraw about how Social Security needs to be reined in (i.e., privatized so Wall Street can make money off it), because it's eating up more and more of the federal budget, ignores the fact that it's self-supporting, not paid for out of general funds. Just modestly raising the amount of personal income subject to SSI withholding will keep Social Security solvent long past our lifetimes......

Despite all the hysterical claims about the Fed's mindlessly printing out money, we aren't being swamped by inflation. Wonder why? Maybe, just maybe it's because they aren't doing it nearly as mindlessly and irresponsibly as you've been led to believe?

All that stuff about needing to replace Medicare with private insurance instead, to save money? Pure fantasy. Medicare spends a smaller piece of every dollar it gets on overhead and expenses than any insurance company in the country -- and the insurance companies need to turn a profit on top of that.

Troy, this is what eventually happens when a country monetizes its debt, unless you think we are different like TBTF?
Frankly, I dont know but I wish they would not continue on this course.

we need a president that realizes his power is veto, not check writing. his duty is to stop foolishness passed by the congress. congress needs to learn they aren't princes on expense accounts, but employees, subject to being dismissed!

and they all need to grow some cohones to stop the exec branch from usurping unconstitutional powers.

but we vote em in. so who's at fault?

This is what the Fed actually said, as quoted in the article, and what it did -- for a limited time:
Monetizing Debt is a scary-sounding boogieman all right, and I'm no financial expert. But it seems to me that rolling over debt payment as it comes in is a bit different from just mindlessly printing money out of thin air, particularly when it's a limited action.

That article is over two years old, and the round of treasury purchases it warns against wrapped up last year. So when are we supposed start seeing "irredeemable economic and financial ruin, ultimately convulsing America with a savage, hyperinflationary depression".... "leading to political and social turmoil and even global war"? Shouldn't that be well underway by now?

I'm not sure how seriously I should take economic analysis from this guy to begin with, considering his proudest accomplishment in life so far seems to be a book called "Hillary Clinton Nude: Naked Ambition, Hillary Clinton And America's Demise." He seems to be a professional alarmist.

not exactly correct Troy. But folks that want draconic and immediate untried, and consequential actions, are indeed hysterical.

problems need carefull consideration of all the options. options with bad side effects should be rejected outright. illogical and silly options likewise rejected. there is a lot of "we have to do SOMETHING even if it's wrong!" going around. that's hysteria and panic.
I believe technology will come up with solutions, if we work WITH the natural healing mechanisms of the planet. not, try to bludgeon people or nature into unatural situations

Reprimanded by a fellow earth dweller to another that has no idea of what he talks of or the rate at which there is pollution on OUR planet.

You expect perfection from others yet lazy lax ways from yourself.

I'd bet my personal carbon footprint is smaller than yours Frosty. We already had that discussion.
I said do what you can to lower YOUR polution. Good fences make good neighbors. In other words, what I'm doing, is none of your nosey business. Attend your OWN business. Keep your nose on your own side of the fence.

Like many busybodies, who think they are entitled to dictate to others, you only make bitter enemies and people determined not to co-operate with ANYTHING you think is a good idea. So bugger off, mate!
