Instead they're milking the oil industry for money, and milking the ignorance and anti-science prejudices of their base.

Or have you forgotten Representative Joe Barton (Rep, Texas) and his apology to British Petroleum, when Obama ordered it to set up an escrow account after the Gulf oil spill? "I'm ashamed of what happened in the White House yesterday," he said. "I think it is a tragedy of the first proportion that a private corporation can be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown."

How dare Obama tell BP to set money aside to make sure the victims of the oil spill got paid for their losses?

Pretty good; been working so much overtime I haven't had time to think. They really need to hire more guys here, but if they'd rather pay overtime I'll take it. I worked 15 12-hour shifts in a row a couple of weeks ago.

Did find time to go out and shoot my new toy when I was done, though: an M1896 Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 (a bit smaller round than a .270 Winchester). It was made in 1905, but looks and shoots like a new one. 100% bluing, shiny bore, gorgeous French walnut stock....

How about yourself? what have you been up to?

decided the 25 ft loa Albin 25, even stretched to 30 ft, is too small for live aboard. even short periods.
I found another Albin 25 for $500. So I bought it and working on it now. Plan to mate them into a low performance but extremely spacious and stable catamaran, still trailerable or usable as two separate hulls.

In the local gun shop the cheapest is Federal, at $24.95 a box. Next cheapest is $35.95, and then it starts getting ridiculous.

But I can buy brass-cased Prvi Partisan ammo online for $12.75 a box, in either fmj or soft point. And buying in bulk brings the price down even more. Can't argue with that....

6.5x55 is a good round, very popular for hunting in Europe and Scandinavia... flat shooting, mild recoil, good penetration. The American stuff is nerfed though, because there's a belief here that the old milsurp rifles aren't strong enough to take modern pressures. Which is complete bull. Norma uses 1896 receivers in its test lab, and if they trust the strength so do I.

My main problem is that the recoil is so soft compared to the usual .30 cal or 7.62 milsurp rifle that I went through four boxes of ammo without even realizing it. Also, the iron sights are a little fuzzy for my 63-year old eyes. So I ordered a set of Mojo peep sights for it....

Let's keep it off topic as much as possible before the thread reaches the sea and deposits too many nutrients(5h1t) and removes all the oxygen. :p

Too bad EPA/White House policies don't allow shallow water derricks or this may have never been an issue.

The volume of arctic sea ice loss is trivial, as correctly noted. What is very important is that open water is dark and absorbs heat from sunlight, whereas ice is white and reflects heat from sunlight. So now that more and more arctic sea ice is lost each summer a self-reinforcing feedback is occurring:
more open water is exposed in summer,
more heat is absorbed in summer,
less winter ice is formed (in thickness if not in area),
less ice means more melting in the summer,
    rinse and repeat.
