WTF with these R/C little "bait boats" in UK for carp fishing???

I got a FAQ....what is it all about?

Do they use these boats just to chum a little pond? Why not just give the bait a good fling?

Are these things just big boy's toys?

Is there some fine point of carp fishing I'm missing?

 

Here people use model boats to carry line and bait out off the beach
Kiwis use torpedoes to carry out there long lines. In the UK they go to great lengths to catch carp. We have millions of them it is illegal to not kill any you catch.

Carp off a muddy bottom taste muddy. We used to put them in a 55 gallon drum with a garden hose trickling water into it from a height to keep it aerated, feed them corn meal for a week or so, then hang them from their tails and bleed them like a hog. Made the meat a lot firmer, and got rid of the muddy taste. We also skinned them and cut the fins out, which probably helped.

 

A few years ago I stumbled into a blog by an British kid who was spending the summer with relatives on the Colorado River near Blythe, CA, and he was all jazzed about going after the carp around his uncle's dock. His main complaint was that he kept catching bass instead....

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

 

A couple of friends are heavily into carp fishing, they spend days camped at the side of a lake trying to catch a bigger carp. Often the fish in lakes have been caught so many times that they have names. To suggest eating them is complete blasphemy and in any case a double figure weight fish is worth serious money. Of course many eastern europeans like eating them & this doesnt go down too well!
