    Vessel X

I don't know who makes it, Grumpy, but it was designed by Jim Antrim, who is a very well respected Naval Architect right in your neighborhood. (El Sobrante) The application for the vessel is still a secret, though there is supposed to be a press conference soon as to its purpose.

    Antrim ain't talkin'.

    Perhaps a floating bridge?

There are all sorts of random comments circulating such as:

1.) A Popemobile for the watery environments of the world where Catholic misionary penetration has not been so good as of late. Taking it to the Jesus Bug approach in water transport.

2.) A bio-material sampling base to harvest the most obscure in genome sources for future medicines and weapons.

3.) Water taxi for truly crowded harbors of the world where simple surface-borne craft can not take it to third dimension in order to "command the field", as it were.

4.) A commando launch and retrievel vessel for swampy environments.

Are those hulls ('pontoons') inflatable? Also, looks like the 'cockpit' is removable......?

The hulls are inflatable. They were built by Wing Inflatables out of Arcata, California. I have no idea as to the command module, but it would make total sense if it were detachable, if only for shipping of the "boat" from one location to another.

    SolomonGrundy I'm not crazy...

Is it a scale model in a pool?

I don't know what it is. but if it were modular and easily stowable and if those black pannels were photovotalic cells and if those things on the back were high efficiency wind generators....I bet a sailboat could tow one and make alot of juice.
