Possible to convert Gaff Schooner to Ketch?

I'm interested buying 34 foot Colvin gaff schooner and was wondering if it is possible to convert it to a Ketch?

first things first:
WHY?
What is the goal to be achieved? Better up wind performance?

both masts would have to mover aft and than would probably interfere with the interior and cocpit.

 

Possible?
Yes, given sufficient time and most especially money you can alter most anything to anything.

Cost effective and practical?
Extremely doubtful I submit. Better to wait until the right boat comes along.

 

I want to sail by my self and
Yawls & Ketches have the advantage here that is why i want know is it possible or not?

If short handed sailing is the criteria I think you'll find the schooner as easy or easier to handle than any ketch. I would suggest sailing the boat for a season or two before making any extensive changes.

 

We've owned a 36' schooner, and I'm sure it could be easily sailed singled handed. I would suggest putting the staysail and foresail on horses so they self tack. Gybing will always be interesting.

Are you mixing style of rig with shape of sail.?
Removing the gaff and changing to all triangular sails could be affordable depending on mast details.

Moving masts around would cost more than boat!

Basically, you are asking how much it would cost to convert a 1940's Packard to front wheel drive because it handles better.
